Your Bio

My parents had, like almost everyone, a Kodak™ Box Brownie roll film camera for our few family photos. At about age 14 I earned enough to buy a 127 camera made of bakerlite. I took contact print photos about business card size, which were quite good for the price and era. Later cameras were 4x5, 35mm, 220, 8mm & 16mm (Movie) in Mamiya, Pentax, Nikon, Canon, Speed Graphic, Rolli, Panasonic, Kodak.

Music. We favour country music and 70's sounds : Our son and his mates came out to our place, some 16 ks out of town. No need to worry about annoying the neighbours. A few quiet beers and a lot of loud music. Was fun afternoon. Even our dog mate Harley seemed at ease with it all.

Highland Central ..Huge retail & industrial estate on flood proofed land : Surely some of the best, un-developed land available close to the throbbing hub of the dynamic central highlands town of Emerald in Central Queensland. The wise investors who have done their homework will snap up this limited land and tailor it to suit their many and varied needs. All connections are currently under way to service the needs of these busy operators. These photos are from Pilot Farm Road which was the testing area for the Fairbairn Dam irrigation system. The coal and gas fields of the Rolleston and Springsure areas are just to the south of this project, with easy access.

Railways of Australia : Just where would we be without them? So many of us have no idea just how dependent we really are on services provided by the railways. For starters, it is a fact that so many of the towns we visit are there purely because of the railway. Very often, when roads are flooded and freight can not get through, the railways rise to the occasion and bring the goods to the local town. Most of the live stock going to the meat works use the railway from the remote rural areas with great results. Electricity we take for granted, is thanks to the coal being transported in huge quantities by massive trains to port and power stations. For future defence purposes the railways of standard gauges are so vital.

Gateway Market Place Emerald : New multi million dollar Shopping Complex for Emerald in Central Queensland. Located just to the east of the town and river on high land with no flooding fears. This is the major development the people of Emerald and so many smaller communities dotted throughout the vast Central Highlands have been waiting for. It will get this author's 'Green' stamp of approval as it will change many shoppers minds about driving all the hundreds of kilo meters to the coast to shop. Vast amounts of fuel and rubber will be saved and then there is the added attraction of creating so much employment both in the construction and ongoing running of the wealth of new or upgraded businesses.

4x4 Adventure Maxi .. Cape York re-visited 2012 : Smiley & Lofty set out on yet another great 4x4 adventure in the great outdoors. Friday the 1st of June 2012 they hook up Lofty's Aussie Swag Camper Mk-3 Off-Road to Smiley' all powerful V8 turbo diesel 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser tray, ready to tackle whatever the very top end of the great Australian mainland can throw at them. Lofty was on a top end adventure to the very tip in 1989 with his wife as driver (Lofty as video and photo guy) of their 1980 Diahatsu F-55 diesel 4x4 pickup as part of a multi vehicle group led by the top end legend, Scotty Wales of Guides to Adventure. 1989 was a classic trek as, after an unusual eight month (yes 8 months) wet (wet season), the flooded Wenlock River meant that no vehicles had crossed that torrent of water for all of 1989 right up to June. Scotty had overcome this same problem some four years earlier by constructing a vehicle carrying raft of sealed 44 gallon fuel drums, galvanised fence wire and logs. They 1989 group also constructed a raft under Scotty's direction and successfully crossed the Wenlock to blaze a trail through bogs, washouts, wrecked crossings, deep water, long chest high grasses and spongy virgin soil (where fences had been re-aligned during the eight months) for other tour operators and private adventurers to follow as they wend their way through the pristine wilderness to the very top of Cape York in tropical Queensland, Australia.

Jeeps storm beach Fraser Island by Landing Craft : As a member of the great Sunshine Coast Jeep Club, my 4x4 mate Col and I join the crew for a magic camping adventure weekend in our various Jeeps on Fraser Island, just off the coast of sunny Queensland and close to the thriving near coastal city of Maryborough. Adding to the excitement of the action packed weekend is the boarding of the huge and well Captained beach landing craft. Down comes the massive bow loading ramp and the Jeeps and other 4x4s thunder onboard in anticipation of the fun awaiting them, just across the wide expanse of deep blue water on the island paradise where nature changes the scene a little every single day of the year

2/14 QMI based at Wacol in Queensland : Photos mainly of the group from our First Armoured Regiment based at Puckapunyal near Seymour in Victoria, who were posted to Queensland to form a new version of the historic 2/14 QMI unit which had seen action on the battle front overseas. The small unit of around sixty eight personal was formed at the existing Wacol army base with assigned quarters of ex WW2 igloo type corrugated iron huts with a sealed lining. As they had flip out ventilation windows and doors each end, they proved to be quite comfortable, even after the double storey new brick barracks we were in at Puckapunyal. Base was handy to civilian life right on the four lane Ipswich Highway.
